Many superstars were released within the year prior to the release of WWE 2K22 such as Keith Lee, Karrion Kross, Scarlett, and Ember Moon. According to the Fightful Select report, some superstars were surprised by their inclusion in WWE 2K22 following their release from the WWE. Additionally, some were not explicitly told about their WWE 2K22 appearance while working in the WWE. WWE told superstars at the time to “expect something” later in the year, which referred to pay and appearances in WWE 2K22.
