The last time fans saw John Walker was when he was gifted his new suit by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, who prefers to just go by ‘Val’) at the end of the series. Along with the new duds, Walker was also given renewed purpose. That may propel the character back into the spotlight if he makes an appearance in Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

Despite the announcement of Thunderbolts, which will be directed by Josh Schreier, There has not yet been a reveal of who exactly will be forming this version of the famous Marvel team. In an interview with the Bingeworthy podcast (via The Playlist), Wyatt Russell admitted that he had not yet heard if he would be joining the team as US Agent, but that he is waiting to hear from Marvel. “No, I’m just waiting on it. You wait on it until, like, they announce it,” Russell said, “They keep it really, really tight, and it’s like, you respect that because they’ve got other bottom lines to look out for than what they think I need to know.”

In fact, Russell said that he would rather not know at all about what is going on with his character until Marvel tells him themselves. “When you get the phone call, you get the phone call. And they do a really good job of keeping it from everybody because, you know, they’ve got something to protect and I always say like, I’d just rather not know. Just don’t tell me. I don’t need to know. Just tell me when you want me to show up. Other than that, just keep me in the dark. I don’t care.” Russell added that he would just like a little bit of notice before he needs to play the character again, as his physique was currently more like that of the character he played on the recently concluded true crime thriller series Under the Banner of Heaven. “And if you do tell me, tell me in enough time where I can get to the gym because right now, I don’t look like John Walker, I look like Dan Lafferty.”

It would be great to see John Walker return, as it felt like his story arc was only getting started in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Other potential members of the Thunderbolts who have already been introduced in the MCU include Baron Zemo, Abomination, Ghost, Taskmaster, Bucky Barnes, and Yelena Bulova. In the comics, the team is at one point working under the guidance of General Thunderbolt Ross. However, following the death of William Hurt, who played Ross in the MCU, it would make more sense for the team to fall under the employ of Val (and whoever it is that she may be working for).
