It’ll only cost $20 and is reported to last up to nine days on a single charge.
Not So Smart, but Wyze
The new smartwatch has built-in sensors for monitoring heart rate and blood oxygen level, along with an accelerometer for tracking movement. It comes in two variations: The 47mm edition, with a 320 x 385 TFT LCD touchscreen and 300mAh battery, and the smaller 44mm edition with a smaller display and 260mAh battery.
While it lacks a flagship operating system like Wear OS, Wyze have created their own onboard software, which can connect to smartphones via Bluetooth 5.0. Data gathered by the onboard sensors can be shared with health and fitness tracking apps like Apple Health and Google Fit.
If you already have Wyze smart home products, then it’s safe to assume some integration with the new smartwatches via the Wyze app, though no exact details have been released at the time of writing.
The Wyze Watch is available for preorder for $19.99 plus shipping from the Wyze shop and will ship in February 2021.
Wyze Watch Specfications
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Wyze watch isn’t going toe-to-toe with the Apple Watch or any other flagship smartwatch due to its low price. Despite this, it has a decent processor and packs an impressive power factor given the battery size each model has. The 47mm and 44mm differ slightly, but offer much the same experience:
Can You Be Cheap and Cheerful?
Until recently, the concept of a budget smartwatch meant something like the $100 Xiaomi Amazfit Bip or similar watches ranging up to the $200 mark. The Wyze watch is an entirely new bracket of low budget smartwatch, and it’d do well to manage your expectations of what it will be able to do.
For example, at any price point, the idea of a smartwatch without any voice assistant integration might be a deciding factor. Anyone who has tried to use the touchscreen on even flagship smartwatches will know that it’s not a fun experience, especially during a workout.
If you are looking for something cheap with a great battery that provides a little more functionality than your average wristwatch, then this might be the perfect budget-conscious purchase. Just don’t expect it to read your blood oxygen level accurately. Then again, even flagship smartwatches haven’t perfected that yet.
