Spencer was asked about his reaction to Breath of the Wild and his thoughts about the NX by a fan on Twitter, prompting the head of Microsoft’s Xbox division to respond positively. As seen in the tweet below, the executive states that he believed the upcoming Zelda game looked “good” and that whenever Nintendo puts out a new system, it becomes an “exciting time for the industry.”

This isn’t the first time for Phil Spencer to give credit where it’s due to the competition. As it happens, the Microsoft exec said Uncharted 4 would be a “great game” prior to the release of Sony’s action-packed title starring Nathan Drake. Interestingly enough, Spencer didn’t stop there when it came to praising the game, as he even went so far as to congratulate Naughty Dog on the PS4 release once it launched.

While Spencer is no stranger to owning up to his tendencies as an excitable gaming fan, it’s intriguing that he would applaud Nintendo on the NX when very little details are known about it other than its release date in 2017. Nevertheless, if The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is any indication of the quality of the Big N’s next console, then fans like us and the Xbox boss are probably in for a major treat.

Some folks are of the opinion that the Nintendo NX will ignite a renaissance for the company, but at this point in time, it’s still hard to say for sure. Of course, even with its recent foibles and shortcomings with the launch of the Wii U and its disappointing sales, Nintendo remains a solid household name. However, it’s difficult to admit that the organization hasn’t lost some of its luster and cultural stock as of late.

Nevertheless, with a bid of confidence from an industry leader like Spencer and with an excellent hands-on preview at E3 2016 for Breath of the Wild, it seems as if Nintendo could go on to reclaim the throne once more as the presumptive king of the video game medium. Naturally, though, with plenty of other stellar releases and fresh consoles like the PS4 Neo and Project Scorpio in the works from firms like Sony and Microsoft, only time will tell how things will shake out for Nintendo.

The Xbox team’s next major release is Gears of War 4, which is set to come out on October 11, 2016, exclusively for Xbox One, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo NX are scheduled for availability in 2017.
