For many years console manufactures like Xbox and PlayStation have produced special edition versions of their controllers. This is often done to celebrate the recent release of a particular game, or a currently ongoing event as with Xbox’s recent Pride Month controller.

Xbox’s Design Lab takes this personalization one step further and allows players to design their own custom Xbox Wireless Controller to purchase using a wide selection of color options for each panel and button on the controller, along with some other personalized features, like rubberized grips and a laser engraved message. An Xbox fan on Reddit named Slaypire has taken this as an opportunity to reproduce a throw-back design that is reminiscent of the Xbox 360’s original white controller.
The Reddit user’s post details all the colors that players should select for the different aspects of the controller in order to most closely resemble the Xbox 360 controller’s design. The finished product is very close to the 360 controller’s color scheme, although the newer Xbox controller design is much slicker than the Xbox 360’s. The design would surely make a nice display for any Xbox One or Series X players that still have their Xbox 360 and white controller hooked up to the same TV.
The freedom the Xbox Design Lab allows means that players can create color-based tributes on their controllers that are representative of flags or sports teams, or even subtle allusions to their favorite games, by using colors schemes associated with that title or a particular character. Xbox itself has also been getting more experimental recently with its officially designed limited edition controllers, as seen with the fur-covered Xbox controllers made to promote the recent Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film release.
Xbox has also made a tartan wrapped controller, although none of these more exotic materials are available when creating a controller in Xbox Design Lab. Choosing the more extravagant options that are available on Xbox Design Lab will also bump up the price of the controller quite significantly. These add-ons include metallic painted buttons or a pattern on the controller’s front face.
