Spelunky 2 Launches on Xbox Game Pass
An obvious sequel, Spelunky 2 has a 91 Metascore on Metacritic, earning it critical acclaim. It was highly braced on how it embraced, tweaked, and improved upon the original, while also implementing new features like Turkey Mounting. Spelunky 2 was designed to be a living, breathing game, where players were able to explore and learn about the world through environmental storytelling found in journal articles around the game.
Players take control of Ana in Spelunky 2, who is the daughter of the first game’s explorer, as she searches for her parents on the moon. The core gameplay loop—a simple, endless roguelike approach focused on spelunking—is the main focus, but the world was brought to life to make it all more enticing.
Spelunky 2 Gameplay
In this 2D platformer, Ana will explore deadly caves filled with enemies, traps, and more, all in the pursuit of her goals and treasure. As any good roguelike game, anytime the player dies, they lose all of their treasure. Spelunky 2 also uses procedural generation so that no two runs are the same, presenting players with new challenges, paths, areas, layers, and features. What’s more, Spelunky 2 supports co-op and competitive game modes with four-player online multiplayer. Overall, the above gameplay trailer really gives a good showcase of what the game is all about.
Spelunky 2 Key Features
As aforementioned, Spelunky 2 improved upon the original in plenty of ways and expanded with a wider array of features. It also retained some features to deliver that nostalgia and familiarity to fans and retain newcomers alike. Some of the most notable include the following:
