However, there’s one person who remains firm in his convictions of positivity and support for all game consoles, including his competitors. It won’t come as a surprise to many gamers that this person is none other than Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, who’s been known to congratulate Sony on their successes, including the recent PlayStation-exclusive Bloodborne.
In an interview with Gamespot, Spencer expressed his disgust with those who try to dig a chasm between consoles and push gamers to love one and hate the other. According to Spencer:
Spencer’s convictions on the matter were so strong during the interview, that we were almost expecting him to drop a #AllConsolesMatter hashtag. Sadly that didn’t happen, but luckily we’re here to help him out.
Speaking further on the console war situation, Spencer mentioned he would much rather focus on what Xbox is doing well than try to put down PlayStation for succeeding in their sphere. For Spencer, it’s all about his own opportunities, and not diminishing the positive aspects of other consoles:
Naturally, Spencer understands that not every gamer is so vehemently one way or the other, and that it’s really only small pockets of vitriol that make the biggest stink, but that doesn’t mean he can’t fight against the negativity. In fact, it sounds more like Spencer is seeking to bring together those who are more partisan in their approach to gaming consoles, and wants to encourage them to speak up, to be excited for all consoles and games and the great things happening in the industry.
“Then when people bring up, ‘Well, what about Nintendo? What about Sony? Isn’t it too bad that Sony is selling a lot of PlayStation 4s right now?’ I honestly don’t feel that it’s too bad.”
In the end, there will always be those who feel strongly that their console or game is better than that of a friend or stranger, but hopefully gamers can change the dialogue to be more supportive and uplifting, rather than pessimistic and combative.
