Yesterday, Alex Garden, General Manager of Xbox Live, released  a statement regarding the issue, and he explains the problem from a a mostly sympathetic view point.

Garden’s comments come from a much longer release that was posted over at Major Nelson’s blog (which you can read in full - HERE):

In the larger release, Garden continues by reassuring Xbox Live users that they are constantly looking for ways to make the system more secure.  He also stated that recovering the stolen and lost accounts in a timely manner is Microsoft’s top priority - as well as includes a lengthy set of precautions that players can take to avoid online scammers.

This statement may come as a bit of a surprise because of how candid Garden is about security -  showing that, despite some less than helpful support personnel, the team at Microsoft are people too and, instead of a hollow company, these people sympathize with everyone that has been stolen from.

That said, a few questions are still on the table - especially with how prevalent the attacks seem to be at this point. Will there ever be a way to stop account thefts completely or, at the very least, is Microsoft as prepared as they say they are for actual attacks to the Xbox Live system.

Ranters, do you think Xbox Live will ever be truly secure?  Have you or someone you know been affected by the sweep of account thefts?
