Anonymous security researcher TitleOS, has posted screenshots from the PDF release notes of the June 2020 version of the GameCore Development Kit, or GDK. The release notes state that “LockhartProfiling” is now a supported console mode while a bug list states that “GPU Capture may fail in LockhartProfiling mode if the title is using all available title memory.”

The release notes are not publicly available, but suggest that a good amount of game developers making games for next-gen Xbox consoles know about the dual console plans. Video Games Chronicle, which has also seen the developer documents, claims that the documents talk about the “Scarlett console family” with the family comprising of Xbox Lockhart and Xbox Anaconda which is the Xbox Series X.
The Xbox Lockhart is rumored to be a less powerful version of the Xbox Series X, with just four teraflops compared to the Xbox Series X’s 12. The console is expected to offer support for features such as Smart Delivery and backward compatibility.
There is also speculation that the Xbox Lockhart will be much cheaper than the Xbox Series X. There has been little information about just how much the other console version would cost, but with Xbox Series X rumored to cost anywhere between $400-500, fans may be able to pick up the Xbox Lockhart for under $350.
It’s unclear when Xbox will officially announce the Xbox Lockhart but it is becoming increasingly difficult for the company to keep a lid on its dual-console plans. When speaking about the Xbox All Access console subscription plan, Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke about next-gen Xbox “consoles” and not the singular “console”. Some fans took this as another confirmation that Xbox Lockhart is being worked on.
Many are surprised that the Xbox team has not unveiled the console at this point. When Sony revealed the PS5 Digital Edition, a disc-less PS5 that will likely be more affordable, some joked that Sony had announced Xbox Lockhart before Microsoft did. However, while that was a funny joke for some, it may have put more pressure on the Xbox team to confirm its cheaper console plans.
