The subject line reads “Checking in”, and is simply signed by “Person who runs the Microsoft account.” The tweet does not reveal much, however, McDonald’s and Spotify’s inclusion could suggest that a partnership could be coming. What the partnership with Xbox will be remains a mystery, but the combination of food, music, and video games sounds like a good idea.

Microsoft leaves a couple more clues to what the partnership could be about. The Microsoft tweet received a substantial amount of replies, mostly from fans guessing what could be coming, and a pair of responses from both the official Xbox and Xbox Game Pass Twitter accounts. The Xbox Twitter responded with “Seems like the right crew for a road trip.” Road trips usually include snacks and good music, so perhaps the partnership will include free McDonald’s or a free Spotify membership.
Xbox Game Pass also responded to the tweet, saying “oh I see how it is,” possibly feeling left out from the upcoming partnership. However, with Xbox Game Pass adding so much content including Grand Theft Auto 5, NBA 2K21, and the upcoming MLB The Show 21, it would be surprising for Microsoft’s streaming service to not be involved in some way. Game Pass has also expanded with the mobile streaming service Xbox Cloud Gaming, adding touch controls to over 50 games playable on mobile, and a launch on iOS devices is said to be planned for this year.
Xbox and Spotify have partnered in the past with the release of Xbox Game Pass. After launching the service, Xbox partnered with Spotify to offer 6 months free trial of Spotify upon upgrading to Xbox Ultimate. Now that Xbox Game Pass is more established, it would be interesting to see what a partnership involving Game Pass could entail.
Although the tweet does not reveal much, the fact that McDonald’s is the recipient could be a clue. McDonald’s recently partnered with Pokemon to release exclusive 25th anniversary cards in Happy Meals. The partnership attracted a lot of attention, with many fans flooding to McDonald’s to secure their piece of Pokemon history. McDonald’s has also partnered with mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so if there is a partnership with Microsoft, it will be familiar territory for the fast food giant.
